Stress is a normal part of life, but it can become a problem when it's constant and interferes with your ability to function. Work stress can come from many different sources, such as deadlines, demanding clients, or difficult employees. While positive stress may prove to be motivating, the opposite is true for bad stress that makes day-to-day challenges seem all that much tougher.

If you're a small business owner, stress is probably a familiar feeling – whether you own a pool service software company or a similar type of business. From worrying about meeting deadlines to managing employee issues, there are plenty of things that can cause stress in the workplace.

The American Institute of Stress reports that, “Americans are one of the most stressed out in the world. The current stress level experienced by Americans is 20 percentage points higher than the global average. The country’s rate is similar to Louisiana’s, the most stressed state.”

Entrepreneur expands on the issue of stress by writing, “Every part of your business has the potential to stress you out and keep you up at night -- lack of sales, too much debt, not enough money, issues with employees, problems with equipment and operations. Your brain will constantly be going. All your problems and thoughts will be whirling around, making you tired and anxious. The pressure of constantly finding ways to grow your bottom line in business builds up.”

While some stress is inevitable, there are ways to manage it and keep it from taking over your life. Here are some tips for coping with small business stress:

- Take breaks when you need them. When you're feeling overwhelmed, take a few minutes to step away from your work and clear your head. A short break can help you refocus and come back to your tasks with fresh energy.

- Delegate when possible. Trying to do everything yourself is a recipe for stress. Learn to delegate tasks to others on your team, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

- Make time for yourself. It's important to schedule some time for yourself, even if it's just a few minutes each day. Taking care of your own needs will help you stay calm and focused when stressors arise.

By following these tips, you can manage stress in the workplace and keep your small business running smoothly.
