Five Technological Developments Re-Shaping the Future of Small Business
As technology continues to shape our future, innovative advancements are completely changing the way small business owners live, work and play. Will the future be a utopia or a dystopia? We do not know for sure what the future will bring for small business owners, but it certainly will be shaped by new technological developments that probably do not even exist yet. Only time will tell what the future holds.
Don’t Get Left Behind the Technology Curve
We’ve all heard the saying, “don’t get left behind the technology curve.” It’s important to stay abreast of new technologies when you are a small business owner, especially in today’s world, because it you fall too far behind, you’ll be at a disadvantage and may lose out on future opportunities. One of the best ways to stay ahead of the curve is to attend technology conferences, for example. These conferences are a great place for a small business to learn and meet interesting people. Another way your small business can stay up to date with technology is to read technology magazines or blogs. This will give you a good overview of what’s new and on tap for the future, and how you can apply the technology to your small company. Finally, you can also learn about new technologies through your social networks.
The Future of Small Business
There seems to be a new technology launched every week these days, but not all these technologies will have a lasting impact on the future life of small business. Some of them will fade away after a few years, while others really will alter the future course of small business history. With so many different technologies, it is hard to make a personal short list of those that are most influential and relevant to small business, but these five are some of the biggest ones in our mind that could be relevant. What do you think?
1. Autonomous Vehicles
Driverless cars have already hit the road in many areas of the world, including parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. These fully autonomous vehicles share the road with other cars, whilst using a variety of different sensors, cameras, and radars to sense their surroundings and avoid collisions. This new technology alters the way we travel and do business by allowing us to work or relax while someone else does all the driving. It could also reduce congestion and pollution by reducing the number of business and personal vehicles on the road.
2. Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. In the past few years, we have seen a huge increase in artificial intelligence technology being used for tasks such as facial recognition at busy airports, food products, and communication with users via messaging apps. Artificial intelligence could also be used to create autonomous robots, like those made by Boston Dynamics, and computer programs that mimic human behavior, like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.
3. Virtual Reality
While artificial intelligence changes how we interact with machines, new technology like virtual reality also allows us to travel and live our life without leaving the house. Virtual reality is also available via headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It seems that every day there are a number of new VR advancements being made.
4. Quantum Computing
Another technology shaping the future of history is the power of quantum computing, which has the potential to revolutionize the way we do business and solve complex problems – even related to our food, for example. It works by using quantum bits instead of classical bits, which allows it to perform number calculations at a much faster rate.
5. Gene Editing
Gene editing is a technology with the potential power to cure diseases, change how we reproduce, edit the human environment through bioengineering of bacteria, plants, animals and even humans themselves. It’s already been used to edit the DNA of a human embryo that was then used to create a genetically modified baby, for example.
The World is Changing
Each of these five new areas has the potential to change our world for the better, but only if used responsibly. There are also a number of technologies being developed that have more nefarious purposes, including nuclear weapons and cyberwarfare programs, and this is a cause for concern. Our sincere hope is that we use our power wisely and balance innovation with caution so as not to create new problems while solving old ones. Technology will make life easier for everyone around the globe – if only we are willing take advantage of it responsibly.
The Future is Bright
In summary, it’s an exciting time for new technological advancements and the future holds great potential due to the many new and exciting developments on the horizon. Although the future of technology is shrouded in mystery, it is possible to predict how it might shape our world. In the coming years, we will continue to see amazing advancements in areas such as driverless cars, artificial intelligence, gene editing, virtual reality, quantum computing, and more.
